DEKALB, Ill. -- The Northern Illinois University men's basketball team takes its four-game winning streak back on the road on Saturday afternoon, November 23, as the Huskies travel to SIU Edwardsville. Game time against the Cougars is scheduled for 2 p.m. and will be available on ESPN+.
The Huskies are coming off an 86-81 victory at Western Illinois on Wednesday night (Nov. 20). Senior
Eugene German (Gary, Ind./21st Century Charter) scored a team-high 26 points, along with six rebounds and six assists, while playing in his 100th career game. Sophomore
Trendon Hankerson (Novi, Mich./Novi) netted a career-best 13 points while junior
Nathan Scott (Naperville, Ill./Olney Central College) also chipped in 13 points.
Over the last four games, Scott is averaging 11.3 points per game while shooting 48.2 percent (27-of-56) from the field.
Senior
Noah McCarty (Rock Falls, Ill./Sterling Newman) made his first career start in his 99th career game against the Leathernecks, scoring nine points with a team-high seven rebounds and three assists.
The NIU bench outscored the Western Illinois reserves, 25-11, on Wednesday night. Over the last three contests, the Huskies reserves have outscored their opponents, 96-33.
SIU Edwardsville brings a 2-3 overall record into Saturday's contest, the Cougars fell at South Dakota, 71-56, in their last contests (Nov. 18). Cam Williams is the leading scorer for SIU Edwardsville, averaging 11.6 points per contest. Mike Adewunmi is also scoring in double figures for the Cougars at 10.4 points per game and leads the team in rebounding at 6.8 boards per contest.
Saturday's matchup is just the fourth all-time meeting between the Huskies and Cougars, with the home team having won each of the first three matchups. SIU Edwardsville edged the Huskies, 64-62, on a shot at the buzzer in NIU's only previous trip to Edwardsville (Feb. 18, 2012).
Following Saturday's contest, the Huskies will return home on Monday night, November 25, when they host Oakland for Fansgiving.
