NIU Travels To Purdue Sunday

Huskies And Boilermakers To Face Each Other For First Time Since 1998

DeKALB, IL – The Northern Illinois University women's basketball team renews its series against the Purdue Boilermakers Sunday at 1 p.m. at Mackey Arena.
 
NIU (2-2) and Purdue last played each other in 1998 with the Boilermakers winning 83-55 in West Lafayette, Ind. Purdue holds a 7-1 advantage in the series with the two teams meeting in the 1990 and 1992 NCAA Tournaments.
 
On Wednesday night, the Huskies battled out of an 11-point first quarter deficit to tie Illinois State 58-58 with under two minutes to go. The Redbirds went on a 7-2 run in 1:29 to take a 65-60 lead and eventually won the game 69-66. NIU shot a season-high 40.3 percent from the field and outrebounded Illinois State 40-39.
 
Redshirt-Senior Courtney Woods (Brisbane, Australia/St. Margaret's) moved into the top-five all-time leading scorers in NIU history Wednesday night, scoring 26 points to move past former teammate Mikayla Voigt with 1,745 points. Woods scored 20 points in the second half and 15 in the fourth quarter alone. She was 7-for-7 from the free throw line to move her percentage for the season to 93.5, which is third-best in the Mid-American Conference.
Purdue is 3-0 on the season after a 66-59 win over Western Illinois on November 17. The Boilermakers had two players with double-doubles in the win. Ae'Rianna Harris had 14 points and a game-high 17 rebounds, while Tamara Farquhar had 13 points and 14 rebounds. Purdue outrebounded the Leathernecks 56-34 in the game and shot 40 percent from the field. Through three games, the Boilermakers are averaging 66.7 points per game and allowing 49.3. Purdue was picked fifth in the Coaches Big Ten Preseason Rankings.

NIU continues its seven-game road swing November 29-30 at the South Point Shootout in Las Vegas, Nev. The Huskies will take on Tennessee Tech on the 29th and South Dakota on the 30th.
