Huskies Return Home to Host Oakland Monday

DEKALB, Ill. -- After winning back-to-back road games, the Northern Illinois University men's basketball team will return home with a five-game winning streak as the Huskies host Oakland on Monday night, November 25, at 7 p.m. at the NIU Convocation Center. Fans can use the promo code FANSGIVING to buy $5 tickets online for Monday night's contest.

NIU brings a 5-2 record into Monday's game after topping SIU Edwardsville, 68-64, on the road Saturday afternoon (Nov. 23). Trailing by two against the Cougars, senior Eugene German (Gary, Ind./21st Century Charter) made a three-pointer, and was fouled, converting a three-point play with 10 seconds left to help lift NIU to the victory.

Sophomore Darius Beane (Carbondale, Ill./Southern Illinois) added 12 points off the bench against the Cougars while senior Lacey James (Grand Rapids, Mich./Rider) finished just shy of a double-double with 10 points and nine rebounds.

NIU's five-game winning streak is its longest since the 2015-16 season when the Huskies won seven in a row, beginning with a double overtime home victory against Florida International (Dec. 19, 2015) and concluding with a road win at Toledo (Jan. 12, 2016).

German is averaging 21.0 points per game, along with 4.0 rebounds and 3.6 assists per contest, during NIU's current five-game win streak. German is shooting 48.6 percent (34-of-70) from the field and 39.4 percent (13-of-33) from three over that stretch. Beane is also scoring in double figures during the current five-game stretch at 10.2 points per game. James and junior Nathan Scott (Naperville, Ill./Olney Central College) are both just a shade under double figures at 9.6 points per game.

The Golden Grizzlies come to DeKalb with a 4-2 overall record and will be playing their first game in a week after topping Hartford, 60-50, last time out (Nov. 18). Xavier Hill-Mais leads three players in double figures for Oakland at 14.0 points per game. Daniel Oladapo is scoring 11.7 points per contest, along with grabbing a team-high 8.0 rebounds per game, while Kevin Kangu is adding 10.7 points per contest.

NIU leads the all-time series against Oakland, 3-0, while the lone meeting in DeKalb coming on Dec. 28, 1974, a 92-69 Huskie victory. The Huskies captured the Men Against Breast Cancer Oakland Hoops Challenge title with a 92-72 win last season (Nov. 25, 2018) in Rochester, Mich. Levi Bradley scored 30 points, with five assists, while going 13-of-13 from the field, and 4-of-4 from three, against Oakland.

Monday night will be the final game in a busy November that has seen the Huskies play eight games in 17 days, and six games in 11 days. Following Monday's contest, the Huskies will not return to action until Thursday, December 5, when they visit Saint Mary's (Calif.).
