ROCKFORD, Ill. – The Northern Illinois University women's team fell to North Dakota, 4-3, at the Boylan Tennis Center in Rockford Sunday.
"This was a tough loss for the team," said NIU head coach Tanya Mahefu. "We need to have better starts. I felt like we were playing catch up all weekend long. We will reset and focus to the week ahead."
After losing the doubles point, the Huskies (2-4) were only able to split the six singles matches. Maria Potsi (Athens, Greece/1st Gel Cholargou) scored a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Kaede Amano at No. 2 singles, while Christy Robinson (Wellington, New Zealand/Samuel Marsden Collegiate School) earned a 6-2, 6-1 victory at No. 3 singles.
Freshman Fernanda Naves (Mexico City, Mexico) rounded out the Huskie singles wins with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Alex Revenig.
The Huskies return to the court Saturday, Feb. 16 when NIU travels to Chicago State. The match begins at 1 p.m. CT.
