Huskies Head Back to Michigan to Face Western Michigan

DEKALB, Ill. – For the second time in four days, the Northern Illinois University men's basketball team will travel to the State of Michigan as the Huskies visit Western Michigan on Tuesday night, February 12. Tip-off between the Huskies and Broncos is slated for 6 p.m., and will be available on ESPN+.

NIU heads back to the Great Lakes State on the heels of a 58-49 setback on Saturday (Feb. 9) at Eastern Michigan. Senior Dante Thorpe (Washington, D.C./Triton College) scored a team-high 13 points against the Eagles, his 11th consecutive game scoring in double figures. 

In conference play, Thorpe is ranked in the top-10 in the Mid-American Conference in scoring (sixth at 16.8 points per game), field goal percentage (tied for seventh at 57.5 percent), free throw percentage (third at 83.8 percent) and three-point percentage, where he leads the MAC shooting 57.1 percent. 

The Huskies also boast the MAC's leading free throw shooter in conference play in senior Levi Bradley (Milwaukee, Wis./Pius XI). Bradley is shooting 96.3 percent from the charity stripe in league play to lead the league and 80.8 percent for the season overall, fourth-best in the MAC. The Milwaukee native is a career 80.3 percent free throw shooter, fourth-best in NIU history. 

Western Michigan has 6-17 overall record and is still looking for its first victory in Mid-American Conference play. Last time out, the Broncos fell at Ball State, 79-59. Three players are scoring in double figures for the Broncos, led by Michael Flowers at 16.4 points per game. Seth Dugan adds 15.8 points per contest, along with 9.0 rebounds per game, and Josh Davis chips in 11.6 points per game.

The Broncos have won 12-straight home games against NIU. The last Huskie victory in Kalamazoo came on March 4, 2006, a 74-59 win.

NIU will return home on Saturday, February 16 as the Huskies host Bowling Green in the second game of a doubleheader. The NIU women's basketball team will face Toledo at 1 p.m., followed by the men's game against the Falcons at 3:30 p.m. Saturday is "Cram the Convo" and NIU's Spring Homecoming, Victor E. Huskie Bobbleheads will be given to the first 1,000 fans in attendance at both games.
