Huskies Host Toledo For Cram The Convo

DEKALB, Ill. – The Northern Illinois University women's basketball team looks to get back in the win column Saturday when it hosts the Toledo Rockets at 1 p.m. Saturday for "Cram The Convo" at the NIU Convocation Center. The game is the first of a doubleheader with the NIU men's basketball team hosting Bowling Green at 3:30 p.m.
 
The first 1,000 fans at each game of Saturday's doubleheader will receive a Victor E. Huskie bobblehead. NIU will wear special pink jerseys for Play4Kay day, and Play4Kay t-shirt's will be available for a minimum donation of $10. At halftime of Saturday's game, NIU Athletics will hold a Legacy Celebration to recognize the contributions and accomplishments of Huskie women student-athlete alumnae from the pre-Title IX era (1961-1981).
 
NIU (14-9, 6-5 MAC) had its three-game winning streak snapped Wednesday night in a 70-45 loss at Miami. The Huskies' 45 points were a season-low, as was their 8.3 percent mark from the three-point line. Mikayla Voigt (Slinger, Wis./Kettle Moraine Lutheran) led NIU with nine points. Myia Starks (Plainfield, Ill./Nequa Valley) added eight points and a game-high three steals. It was the first time NIU did not have a double-digit scorer since Dec. 31, 2011 at DePaul.
 
The Huskies are 9-2 at the Convocation Center this season. NIU last won at least 10 home games in the 2006-07 season when the Huskies were 11-3 at home. The Huskies are averaging 81.8 points per game at home this year, shooting 42.4 percent from the field and 79.2 percent at the free throw line. NIU is winning by an average of 13.6 points per game at the Convocation Center with a +4.0 rebound margin and +4.5 turnover margin. The Huskies have scored over 75 points seven times on the home floor, all wins. NIU is also 5-2 after a loss this season.
 
Toledo (15-7, 7-4 MAC) leads the all-time series with NIU 34-20. The Rockets have won five of the last seven meetings as the two teams split last season's series. Picked to finish second in the MAC West in the preseason, Toledo moved to 7-4 in the MAC Wednesday night when it held Ohio's MAC-leading offense to just 50 points in a 76-50 win. Nakiah Black made six threes to lead the Rockets with 20 points. Kaayla McIntyre had 17 points and 12 rebounds as Toledo shot 59.2 percent from the field. Toledo leads the MAC in scoring defense, allowing 59.2 points per game.
