ORLANDO, Fla. – The Northern Illinois University women's team extended its winning streak to three after defeating Bucknell, 5-2, at the USTA National Campus Wednesday.

"Overall, it was a good spring break for the team," said NIU head coach Tanya Mahefu. "We were able to get some quality wins and get ourselves ready for conference play. We do, however, have to make sure we have the right doubles teams moving forward."

After dropping the doubles point, the Huskies (5-8) went on to win five of the six singles matches with the Bison (8-2). Jovana Peric (Brcko, Bosnia and Herzegovina/Center for Education) rallied from a first set setback to win, 4-6, 6-4, 1-0 at No. 1 singles.

Maria Potsi (Athens, Greece/1st Gel Cholargou) also rallied from a first set loss to defeat Cayla Koch at No. 2 singles, 2-6, 6-3, 1-0. Paula Veyhle (Stuttgart, Germany) earned a 6-4, 6-1 straight set win over Michi Papich at No. 4 singles, while Christy Robinson (Wellington, New Zealand/Samuel Marsden Collegiate School) scored an impressive 6-4, 6-0 win at No. 5 singles.

Freshman Fernanda Naves (Mexico City, Mexico) rounded out the winning scores for NIU with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Jill Auteri at No. 6 singles.

The Huskies return to the court Friday when NIU plays host to Toledo. The match begins at 1 p.m. CT at the Boylan Tennis Center.
