CLEVELAND – Northern Illinois University junior guard
Eugene German (Gary, Ind./21st Century Charter) was named to the Mid-American Conference All-Tournament Team, announced by the league on Saturday night following the conference tournament championship game.
In three tournament games, German averaged 27.0 points, 5.3 rebounds and 2.3 assists per contest, shooting 66.7 percent (32-of-48) from the field, including 52.4 percent (11-of-21) from three-point range.
German is joined on the All-Tournament Team by C.J. Massinburg and Jeremy Harris of Buffalo as well as Demajeo Wiggins and Dylan Frye of Bowling Green. Harris was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player.
In NIU's conference tournament opener at home against Ohio (March 11), German netted 23 points on 9-of-15 shooting, including 4-of-6 from three-point range, to go along with five rebounds, as the Huskies defeated the Bobcats, 80-61.
The Gary, Ind., native then helped lead the Huskies to their first semifinal appearance in 16 years with 27 points and seven rebounds in an 80-76 win over second-seeded Toledo in the quarterfinals (March 14). German went 11-of-15 (73.3 percent) from the field against the Rockets, including 55.6 percent (5-of-9) from three-point range.
Against Bowling Green in the semifinals (March 15), German scored 31 points, his third 30-plus point effort of the season, on 12-of-18 (66.7 percent) shooting, with five assists, four rebounds and two steals.
German is just the third player in Huskie history to be named to the MAC All-Tournament Team, joining Allen Rayhorn who was a three-time All-Tournament Team honoree (1980, '81, '82), including MVP honors in 1982, and P.J. Smith (2003).
