HAMILTON, Ohio – The Northern Illinois University women's team battled, but succumbed to Miami, 6-1, defeat at the Riverside Athletic Club Sunday.

The Huskies (5-12, 0-4) fought hard, but dropped the doubles point to start the day. The No. 3 doubles team of Paula Veyhle (Stuttgart, Germany) and Christy Robinson (Wellington, New Zealand/Samuel Marsden Collegiate School) posted a 6-1 victory, however NIU was edged, 6-4 at No. 1 doubles and 6-2 at No. 2.

Veyhle scored the Huskies' point on the day picking up a 7-6 (7-4), 0-6, 1-0 (11-9) at No. 4 singles.

"I think we competed better as a team today," said NIU head coach Tanya Mahefu. "Doubles, we were right there with them. We need to continue to play like this as a team if we are to be successful in conference."

The NIU women's tennis team is back in action Friday when the Huskies travel to Akron. The match is set to begin at 12 p.m. CT.
