DEKALB, Ill. – The Northern Illinois University women's basketball team hosts the Ball State Cardinals Wednesday night at 6 p.m. at the NIU Convocation Center.
Prior to Wednesday's game, NIU will honor senior guard
Mikayla Voigt (Slinger, Wis./Kettle Moraine Lutheran) for Senior Night. Voigt has started all 121 games she has played as a Huskie and enters Wednesday's game seventh on the NIU career scoring chart with 1,665 points. She is third all-time in NIU history with 248 made three-pointers and a free throw percentage of 83.6 percent. On Dec. 8, Voigt set NIU and MAC single-game records with 11 three-pointers and 52 points in the Huskies' 86-61 win over Western Illinois.
NIU (17-11, 9-7 MAC) currently holds the seventh-seed for the upcoming Mid-American Conference Tournament with two games remaining in the regular season. The Huskies could finish as high as fifth, but are assured a home game in the first round. NIU led at Toledo 28-27 at halftime on March 2, but an 11-2 Rockets run to start the third quarter pushed Toledo to a 64-53 win. Voigt led NIU with 19 points and a game-high four steals.
Gabby Nikitinaite (Orpington, Kent, UK/Coopers School) added 11 points for her fourth consecutive game scoring in double figures.
Ball State (7-21, 2-14 MAC) leads the all-time series against NIU 36-20. The Huskies won the first meeting of the season 93-83 on Feb. 9 at Worthen Arena. Voigt led all scorers with 37 points, making eight threes.
Myia Starks (Plainfield, Ill./Nequa Valley) added 19 points and a game-high seven assists. NIU shot 51.5 percent from the field and 47.6 percent from the three-point line.
NIU faculty and staff may show their university ID at the Convocation Center Box Office Wednesday night for a free ticket to the game. Wednesday night's game is the final "Game Show Wednesday" of the season with "Let's Make a Deal" promotions.
