ROCKFORD, Ill. – The Northern Illinois University women's team ended a six match winless drought with a 4-3 victory over IUPUI at the Boylan Tennis Center Friday.

"It felt great to get the win today," said NIU head coach Tanya Mahefu. "We really dug deep today."

After losing the doubles point, the Huskies (3-8) won four of the six singles matches to score the victory.

Jovana Peric (Brcko, Bosnia and Herzegovina/Center for Education), who had been out of the lineup for the last five matches, earned a hard-fought, 7-6, 7-5 victory at No. 2 singles. Brodie Walker (Bristol, England/Bristol Grammar) cruised in her straight set victory at No. 3 singles, winning 6-2, 6-2 over Sarah Lounsburg.

Paula Veyhle (Stuttgart, Germany) earned a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Mariella Pessina at No. 4 singles, while Christy Robinson (Wellington, New Zealand/Samuel Marsden Collegiate School) rallied from a first-set 6-4 loss, to win at No. 5 singles. Robinson won the next two sets, 6-4, 7-5 to help give NIU the victory.

The Huskies return to the court Tuesday when NIU travels to Daytona, Fla. to face Bethune-Cookman. The match begins at 11 a.m. CT.
