CLEVELAND – Freshman
David Pata (Bucharest, Romania/Emil Racovita) and junior
Bor Schweiger Muzar (Crnomelj, Slovenia/Gimnm) of the Northern Illinois University men's tennis team have been named the Mid-American Conference Doubles Team of the Week by the league office on Wednesday.
The NIU pair had a perfect 2-0 mark this past weekend, claiming a 6-4 win over Western Michigan's Jannik Opitz and Kennosuke Nouchi on Friday (March 29) before recording a 7-5 victory against Tom Carney and Thibault De Negri of Ball State to help the Huskies to a 5-2 triumph over the Cardinals. The two victories, both at number two doubles, helped Pata and Muzar improve to 7-2 as a tandem this season, including a 3-1 mark in conference dual matches.
Pata and Muzar's weekly conference honor is their second as a pairing this season, as they were also named the MAC Doubles Team of the Week on February 27. The duo is NIU's second doubles team to earn two MAC Team of the Week honors this year as senior
Eric Marbach (Naperville, Ill./Waubonsie Valley) and sophomore
Kristopher Ortega (Home Glen, Ill./Seton Home Study School) took the conference award on January 23 and February 6.
The Huskies will return to action this Sunday, April 7, when they travel to Buffalo for a matchup against the Bulls.
