STOW, Ohio – The Northern Illinois University women's team suffered a 7-0 setback to Akron at the LaTuchie Tennis Center Friday.
The Huskies (5-13, 0-5), which lost the doubles point, were unable to make a breakthrough in singles play.
Brodie Walker (Bristol, England/Bristol Grammar) and Julia Dmitrieva (Smolensk, Russia/Smolensk) battled at No. 2 and No. 6 singles, respectively. After dropping the first set, 6-2, Walker was edged out 6-4 in the second.
Dmitrieva fought hard in her first set of the day, but fell, 7-5. She then suffered a 6-2 setback in the second set.
The NIU women's tennis team returns to the court Sunday when the Huskies play host to Akron. The match is set to begin at 1 p.m. CT and will take place at the Boylan tennis Center in Rockford.
