DEKALB, Ill. – The Northern Illinois University men's basketball team announced on Wednesday (July 24) the addition of two players, Darius Beane (Carbondale, Ill./Carbondale/Southern Illinois) and Daniel Filippone (Antioch, Ill./Antioch Community) for the 2019-20 season.
"We are excited to add both Darius and Daniel to our roster," said NIU head coach
Mark Montgomery. "They are both combo guards that possess good basketball IQ, toughness and the ability to score. Each of them will be a positive addition to our program."
Beane joins the Huskies following one season at Southern Illinois, where he appeared in 32 games, averaging 15.5 minutes per contest. Beane averaged 3.0 points and 2.8 rebounds per game for the Salukis and scored a season-high 16 points against Northern Iowa on Jan. 23, 2019. In high school, Beane averaged 20 points, seven rebounds and four assists per game as a senior at Carbondale, where he earned IBCA 3A/4A All-State Second Team honors in 2017-18.
Filippone played four seasons as Antioch Community High School, where is averaged 25.5 points, 6.5 assists and 5.5 rebounds per game as a senior in 2018-19, earning All-State honorable mention recognition from the Champaign News-Gazette. Filippone helped Antioch win three regional championships and graduated as the school's all-time leading scorer.
Beane and Filippone join Tyler Cochran (Bolingbrook, Ill./Bolingbrook), Keenon Cole (Streamwood, Ill./Streamwood), Chris Johnson (Chicago, Ill./Thornton Fractional North/South Suburban College) and Nathan Scott (Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley/Olney Central) as newcomers for the Huskies for the 2019-20 season.
