DeKALB, IL – The Northern Illinois University women's basketball team returns to the NIU Convocation Center Wednesday to take on the Ohio Bobcats at 6 p.m.

NIU (5-11, 1-4 MAC) snapped a six-game losing streak Saturday with a 70-65 win at Akron. The Huskies rallied from nine points down in the third quarter to outscore the Zips 26-17 in the fourth quarter for their first Mid-American Conference win of the season. NIU shot 56.7 percent from the field in the final quarter last Saturday for their third-highest scoring quarter of the year.
The Huskies have scored at least 20 points in a quarter 10 times this season. Seven of those have come in the fourth quarter of games. NIU shot a season-high 45.9 percent from the field at Akron. Since conference play started on January 4, the Huskies are shooting 42.3 percent from the floor.
Courtney Woods (Brisbane, Australia/St. Margaret's) led the Huskies with 20 points, seven rebounds, and three assists in the win over Akron. In that game, Woods passed Tammy Hinchee for third on the NIU all-time scoring chart with 1,934 points. She is 66 points away from becoming the third Huskie to score 2,000 career points. Woods leads the MAC in free throw percentage at 86.8 percent and is third in scoring with 17.1 points per game. Her 20 points at Akron marked her eighth 20-point game of the season.
Ohio (10-6, 3-2) enters Wednesday's game tied atop the MAC East with Buffalo and Kent State after a 79-71 win over Ball State last Saturday. Cece Hooks led the Bobcats with 25 points as Erica Johnson had a double-double with 21 points and 13 rebounds. Ohio is fourth in the MAC in both scoring offense at 71.1 points per game and scoring defense at 64.4 points allowed per game.
The Bobcats lead the all-time series against NIU 21-19. Ohio has won the last four meetings after an 87-67 win in Athens, Ohio on January 4. Johnson had 23 points, eight rebounds, and five assists in the Bobcats' victory.
Gabby Nikitinaite (Orpington, Kent, UK/Coopers School) led the Huskies with 16 points off the bench.
NIU goes on the road Saturday, January 25 to face Eastern Michigan at 1 p.m. CT.
