Huskies Close January With Road Test At Eastern Michigan Saturday

DeKALB, IL – The Northern Illinois University women's basketball team goes on the road this Saturday to take on the Eastern Michigan Eagles at 1 p.m. CT.

NIU (5-12, 1-5 MAC) is coming off one of its best offensive performances of the season Wednesday night against Ohio. The Huskies shot a season-high 47.5 percent from the field against the Bobcats and tied a single-game program record with 15 three-pointers in an 85-79 loss. Since the start of Mid-American Conference play, the Huskies are shooting 43.3 percent from the field and 39.4 percent from the three-point arc.

Redshirt-Senior forward Courtney Woods (Brisbane, Australia/St. Margaret's) earned a pair of MAC honors this week for her play against Kent State and Akron last week. Woods was named the MAC West Player of the Week on Tuesday and the MAC Female Scholar Athlete of the Week on Wednesday after averaging 22.5 points and seven rebounds against the Golden Flashes and Zips. On Wednesday night, Woods made a season-high six threes to score a team-high 22 points. She now has 1,956 points putting her 44 away from 2,000 for her career.

Freshman forward A'Jah Davis (DeKalb, Ill./Montverde Academy [Fla.]) became the first Huskie this season to post a double-double on Wednesday night with a season-high 17 points and 17 rebounds against Ohio. Davis was 8-for-11 from the field and had 10 offensive rebounds. She is the first NIU freshman to have a double-double since Woods had 24 points and 10 rebounds in a win at Western Michigan on Feb. 24, 2016. Since being put in the starting lineup on January 15 against Kent State, Davis is averaging 11 points and nine rebounds per game.

Eastern Michigan (8-9, 3-3 MAC) was picked to finish fourth in the MAC West in the preseason. The Eagles are 3-3 in league play after an 89-82 loss to Central Michigan Wednesday night. Areanna Combs led the Eagles with 19 points and 11 rebounds. She leads Eastern Michigan with 18.5 points per game. The Eagles are third in the MAC in field goal percentage defense at 39.8 percent.
