DeKALB, IL – The Northern Illinois University women's basketball team heads back out on the road Sunday when it goes down to Peoria to face the Bradley Braves. Tipoff is at 2 p.m. with the game being broadcast on ESPN+.
NIU (2-2) looks to bounce back from an 82-79 loss to Toledo on Thursday night in the Mid-American Conference opener for both teams. The Huskies bounced back from an early double-digit deficit to get within one point of the Rockets at halftime, eventually taking the lead in the third quarter. NIU led 62-60 with under eight minutes to go in the game but could not hold off a late Toledo surge.
Two Huskies had double-doubles against the Rockets Thursday. Sophomore guard
Chelby Koker (Racine, Wis./Shoreland Lutheran) led NIU with 23 points and a career-high 13 rebounds. Koker leads NIU with 21.3 points and 7.5 rebounds per game through four games this season.
A'Jah Davis (DeKalb, Ill./Montverde Academy [Fla.]) had 11 points and 11 rebounds against the Rockets after being held to just two points in the first half.
Redshirt-Junior guard
Janae Poisson (Matteson, Ill./Marian Catholic) continued her stellar shooting off the bench Thursday night. Poisson was 4-for-5 from the three-point line on her way to 13 points. She is second in the MAC in three-pointers per game at 3.5 and her 14 threes this season put her 17
th in the nation. As a team, NIU leads the MAC with 11.5 three-pointers per game which is seventh-most in the country. The Huskies have made 40 threes in the last three games.
Sunday's game is the first meeting between NIU and Bradley since November 29, 2017 when the Huskies earned a 76-52 win at the NIU Convocation Center. NIU has won each of the last five meetings against Bradley to take a 12-7 edge in the all-time series. The Braves enter Sunday's game with a 2-2 record after a 69-54 loss at Saint Louis on December 6. Madi Haack leads Bradley in both scoring and rebounds with 16.8 points and 7.8 rebounds per game.
Following Sunday's game, NIU is back home to take on Ohio on Wednesday, December 16. Although fans are unable to attend NIU basketball games this season, fans can make their presence felt by purchasing a cutout as part of the "Huskie Howl" presented by First National Bank of Omaha (FNBO).
Fans can put their image on a cutout for just $60 that will remain in the NIU Convocation Center for all NIU men's and women's basketball games during the 2020-21 season. Net proceeds from the sales of fan cutouts benefit the Huskie Athletic Fund.
