NIU Heads To Michigan State For Final Non-Conference Test

DeKALB, IL – The Northern Illinois University women's basketball team plays its final game before the holiday break on Sunday afternoon when it heads to East Lansing, Mich. to face Michigan State. Tipoff at the Breslin Center is at 2 p.m.
 
NIU (2-4) is coming off a77-67 loss to Ohio on Wednesday night. Chelby Koker (Racine, Wis./Shoreland Lutheran) led the Huskies with a career-high 28 points and eight assists. She also made a career-high six three-pointers. Koker scored 15 of NIU's 17 points in the fourth quarter. She is currently tied for fifth in the Mid-American Conference in scoring and rebounding with 21.2 points and 7.8 rebounds per game.
 
Janae Poisson (Matteson, Ill./Marian Catholic) continued her consistent three-point shooting to start the season against the Bobcats Wednesday night. The redshirt-junior was 4-for-10 from long range for 12 points. She is shooting 50 percent from the three-point line through six games with her 21 threes putting her among the top-10 nationally in three-pointers made.
 
Sophomore forward A'Jah Davis (DeKalb, Ill./Montverde Academy [Fla.]) had 12 points and nine rebounds against Ohio Wednesday night. In two MAC games this season, Davis is averaging 11.5 points and 10 rebounds per game.
 
Michigan State moved to 5-0 on the year after a 79-70 win over Central Michigan on Friday. Nia Clouden led the Spartans with 21 points, six assists and three steals. Alyza Winston added 19 points. Michigan State is averaging 81 points per game to start the year while allowing 61.8 points per game. NIU leads the overall series with the Spartans 3-2 with Sunday marking the first meeting between the two teams since 2007.
 
Once the calendar moves to 2021, NIU jumps right back into MAC play when Western Michigan comes to the Convocation Center on Saturday, Jan. 2. Tipoff is at 1 p.m. Although fans are unable to attend NIU basketball games this season, you can still make your presence felt in the NIU Convocation Center by purchasing a cutout as part of the "Huskie Howl" presented by First National Bank of Omaha (FNBO).
 
For just $60, fans can put their image on a cutout that will remain in place in the NIU Convocation Center for all NIU men's and women's basketball games during the 2020-21 season. Net proceeds from all fan cutouts will benefit the Huskie Athletic Fund.
