NIU Hosts Eastern Michigan Wednesday Night

DeKALB, IL – The Northern Illinois University women's basketball team is back in action Wednesday night when it hosts the Eastern Michigan Eagles at 6 p.m. at the NIU Convocation Center. Wednesday night's game wraps up a stretch of four out of the last five games at home for the Huskies.

NIU (8-17, 4-10 MAC) took Central Michigan to the brink last Saturday on Senior Day, getting within two points of the Mid-American Conference leaders with less than a minute to go but falling in the end 70-66. Courtney Woods (Brisbane, Australia/St. Margaret's) led the Huskies with 21 points and 12 rebounds, scoring 17 points in the fourth quarter alone. Chelby Koker (Racine, Wis./Shoreland Lutheran) added 14 points off the bench with four assists.
 
Koker has shot 45.8 percent from the three-point line over the last four games, averaging 12 points per game during that stretch. Koker tied a season-high with five three-pointers at Ball State on February 19 on her way to 16 points. She has scored in double figures nine times this season, three of which have come in the last four games. Koker's scoring has helped lead NIU to average 28.2 bench points since February 8. The Huskies had 31 bench points against Central Michigan last Saturday and a season-high 46 at Ball State.
 
Eastern Michigan (13-12, 8-6 MAC) is tied for fourth in the MAC with Western Michigan and Kent State after a 61-58 win over Ball State last Saturday. Areanna Combs led the Eagles with 15 points, adding nine rebounds. Eastern Michigan is third in the MAC in both scoring defense at 66.2 points per game and field goal percentage defense at 39.5 percent. Combs leads the Eagles with 18.4 points per game while adding 6.1 rebounds per game. Eastern Michigan won the first meeting between the two teams 62-55 in Ypsilanti, Mich. on January 25.
 
The Huskies are on the road Saturday, February 29 at Western Michigan. Tip-off is at 1 p.m. CT.
