INDIANAPOLIS – The Northern Illinois University women's tennis team improved to 10-5 following a doubleheader sweep Saturday.

The Huskies opened the day with a 4-3 victory over Butler University at the Butler Bubble, before defeating IUPUI, 6-1, at the Indianapolis Tennis Center in the nightcap.

NIU faced adversity in their match against the Bulldogs after losing the doubles' point, but rallied in singles play.

Brodie Walker earned NIU its first point at No. 4 singles following an injury to Butler University's Nina Bertino. Fernanda Naves posted a strong victory at No. 3 singles over Sara Linn with a score of 6-3, 6-2.

Christy Robinson kept the Huskies in the game with a 6-1, 6-4 win at No. 5 singles. Paula Veyhle clinched the victory with a win at No. 6 singles, 7-6 (4), 6-3.

"I was really proud of the effort and fight the team showed today," said NIU head coach Eric Burns. "We got off to a terrible start in doubles [against Butler]. We just didn't play the way we need to play and Butler did a nice job. But we really did a nice job of staying in the match mentally and came back strong in singles.

"I was really proud of the bottom of our lineup. They really played some good tennis today to help us win."

Following the win over Butler, the Huskies travelled to the Indianapolis Tennis Center to face the Jaguars.

Maria Potsi and Lara Slisko started doubles play with a win for the Huskies at No. 1 doubles, 6-2. Brodie Walker and Paula Veyhle clinched the doubles point with a 6-4 win at No. 2 doubles.

In singles play, Potsi posted a strong victory of 6-2, 6-3 at No. 1 over Gabbi Ochalik. Veyhle ended the weekend 2-0 with a win at No. 5 singles, 6-4, 6-2. The victory was clinched by Walker who put up a 7-5, 6-3 victory at No. 3 singles. Notably, Robinson pushed her opponent to three sets at No. 4 singles, taking the win 2-6, 7-5, 6-4.

The Huskies will be back on the court in a doubleheader Friday, March 6 as they travel to Buffalo, N.Y. to face Binghamton University and then head to Olean, N.Y. to face St. Bonaventure University that afternoon.
