NIU Volleyball Adds JoDee Kovanda

DeKALB, IL – The Northern Illinois University volleyball team announced the addition of right side hitter JoDee Kovanda to the Huskie volleyball program. Kovanda joins the Huskies as a transfer from the University of West Florida and will have two seasons of eligibility remaining.

"We are happy to have JoDee join our group," said head coach Ray Gooden. "She will give us much needed depth and experience to our pins."

Kovanda played two seasons at West Florida as the Argonauts won back-to-back Gulf South Conference titles. She played in all 33 matches as a sophomore in 2019, averaging 1.49 kills per set with four matches of double-digit kills. Kovanda also had 83 blocks on the year to average 0.67 blocks per set.

A native of Lockport, Ill., Kovanda was a four-year letterwinner at Lockport Township High School. She was named All-Southwest Suburban Blue Conference three times and earned two All-Area Second Team honors. As a senior, Kovanda was an All-State Honorable Mention selection after hitting .334 with 232 kills and 46 aces as Lockport won 24 matches.

Kovanda is the third addition to the NIU roster for the 2020 season, joining fellow transfer Hannah Oelberg (DeKalb, Ill./DeKalb) from IUPUI and incoming freshman Ella Mihacevich (Brunswick, Ohio/Padua Franciscan).
