Huskie Duo Named to NFF Hampshire Honor Society

Steckler and Starr honored for dedication in the classroom

DEKALB, Ill. – A pair of Northern Illinois University seniors were named to the NFF Hampshire Honor Society by the National Football Foundation & College Hall of Fame on Wednesday.

Offensive linemen Jordan Steckler and Andrew Starr earned membership into the Hampshire Honor Society. The Huskie pair are part of a list of 1,432 players from 364 colleges and universities across all divisions of college football to qualify for membership in the Hampshire Honor Society in 2020.

A first-team All-MAC selection, Steckler was the anchor of the NIU offensive line. A team captain, he started 43 games for the Huskies during his four-year career. Steckler, a semifinalist for the William F. Campbell Trophy and three-time Academic All-MAC selection, earned a 3.608 cumulative grade point average in leadership and management. He helped the NIU offense average 5.2 yards per play this year.

Starr, a graduate transfer from Sacred Heart, played in all 12 games for the Huskies, starting two games at left tackle. A member of the offensive line rotation, he helped pave the way to the Huskies' 510 yards of total offense in their 39-36 win at Ohio, a season high. Starr posted a 3.333 GPA in sports management.

Members of the Hampshire Honor Society must be seniors who completed their final year of eligibility in 2019 and were starters or contributors during the 2019 season while achieving a cumulative graduate or undergraduate grade point average of 3.2 or above.

NIU has had at least one player named to the Hampshire Honor every year since 2010, including a school-best six last year. This year's honorees give the Huskies a total of 27 all-time.
