DeKALB, IL – An installment of "Huskies Unleashed" from the Northern Illinois University Athletic Department has been named a finalist for a Sports Video Group College Sports Media Award.
The "Huskies Unleashed" episode that featured NIU women's basketball student-athlete
Courtney Woods, produced by graduate student Eddie Garcia, was named one of six finalists in the Outstanding Special Feature – Collegiate Student category. This is the third time a NIU production has received finalist recognition from SVG.
"Sports Video Group does a tremendous job of recognizing the video production work of college sports," said Patrick Gorman, Video Coordinator for NIU Integrated Media Technologies. "We're really proud and excited for Eddie because we work with students year to year to produce stories on the wonderful student-athletes at NIU. Eddie really has a good vision and such a drive to craft each piece produced in the Unleashed series."
The feature focused on Woods' background in the game of basketball growing up in Australia and her recovery from a season-ending injury in 2018 to return this past season to the Huskies.
"It is an honor to be able to represent NIU alongside some of the best content that is produced at college campuses across the nation," Garcia said. "I have to give all of the credit to Pat Gorman and the entire Huskie Vision team for allowing me to have full control over the "Huskies Unleashed" series and offering me the guidance to grow as a producer."
"Courtney's journey made it easy to tell her story. She is relentless and continues to emulate what it means to be a Huskie and what it takes to reach a goal. To me, that is what this nomination represents - the hard work and passion that she shared for basketball and for NIU."
