2020 NIU-BYU Football Game Moved to Huskie Stadium

Huskies Will Host Cougars on October 24 in DeKalb

July 8

DEKALB, Ill. – Northern Illinois University will host the BYU Cougars on Saturday, October 24 in Huskie Stadium, bringing the contest originally scheduled for SeatGeek Stadium in Bridgeview back to campus, NIU officials announced Wednesday.

Due to restrictive stadium capacity limits and safety measures set in place by the state of Illinois during the COVID-19 pandemic, NIU and City of Bridgeview officials agreed to move the game out of SeatGeek Stadium.

"Our team and staff were looking forward to the opportunity to play the 2020 Huskie Chi-Town Showdown versus BYU at SeatGeek Stadium in Bridgeview this October," said NIU Associate Vice-President and Director of Athletics Sean T. Frazier. "COVID-19 has obviously brought about many changes for all of us, and we continue to adapt and make the best decisions possible for NIU, our student-athletes and fans. Thanks to the leadership of the City of Bridgeview and SeatGeek Stadium, who have continued to be great partners in this process. We hope to continue our relationship and will look for an opportunity to bring a game to SeatGeek Stadium in the future."

NIU will now play five Saturday home games – and six total games – in Huskie Stadium in 2020. The BYU game is the second game on the Huskies' 2020 schedule to undergo changes over the last several weeks. On June 22, the Mid-American Conference announced that the NIU-Buffalo game originally scheduled to be played on Election Night (Tuesday, Nov. 3) will now be played on Saturday, October 31 after the NCAA encouraged all member institutions to suspend athletics activities on Election Day.

Season ticket members who purchased the five-game Huskie Stadium package will be contacted by the Huskie Athletics Ticket Office staff via phone or email regarding adding the BYU game to their tickets for 2020, or can go online to their NIUHuskies.com/myhuskies account. Season ticket members can also email huskiestickets@niu.edu or call 815-753-PACK (7225) for more information.

Patrons who have purchased tickets to the NIU-BYU game directly through SeatGeek will have their tickets refunded. Those ticket buyers will have an option to purchase tickets to the game at Huskie Stadium online, or will be contacted individually by the NIU Athletics Ticket Office.

The changes of the Buffalo and BYU games have made the 2020 Huskie Stadium home schedule one of the most attractive in recent years with four October Saturday contests in DeKalb in addition to the Sept. 5 season opener versus Rhode Island and the #MACtion match-up versus Toledo on Tuesday, November 17.

Season tickets remain on sale and remain one of the best entertainment values in the region. The six-game package is available beginning at $85 for general admission tickets on the East Side of Huskie Stadium or $135 for reserved seats in sections A, B, F and G on the West Side.  Reserved seats in sections C, D and E are priced at $150 each. Family Packs – consisting of a minimum of four season tickets – are either $320 (sections A or G) or $400 (sections B or F) for all six games and can be expanded for larger groups.

Season tickets can be purchased today online at NIUHuskies.com/tickets or by calling 815-753-PACK (7225). With the state of Illinois seating capacity limitations expected to be in effect at Huskie Stadium for 2020, having season tickets will be more important than ever. Details on 2020 seating plans and game day operational changes will be announced Thursday on NIUHuskies.com and season ticket members will receive an email detailing those changes.

If the schedule undergoes more changes due to state, university or conference mandates, options are in place for season ticket members, including the ability to roll their season ticket payment to 2021, make a donation to the Huskie Athletic Fund, or request a full refund in writing.
