Huskies Open Homestand Against Miami Saturday

DeKALB, IL – The Northern Illinois University women's basketball team opens a two-game homestand Saturday afternoon when the Miami RedHawks come to the NIU Convocation Center for a 1 p.m. contest.
 
The game will be shown on ESPN+ with the radio broadcast available on WLBK 98.9 FM/1360 AM as well as on the new NIU Huskies app and the TuneIn app.
 
NIU (7-6, 5-3 MAC) bounced back from its loss at Toledo Feb. 20 with a 76-63 win at Akron Wednesday. The Huskies pulled down a season-high 57 rebounds and outrebounded the Zips by 25. NIU turned 16 offensive rebounds into 16 second chance points. The Huskies now lead the Mid-American Conference in rebounding at 44.31 boards per game and rebound margin at +7.38.
 
Sophomore forward A'Jah Davis (DeKalb, Ill./Montverde Academy [Fla.]) had a game-high 14 rebounds to go with 13 points for her third double-double of the season. In MAC games this season, Davis is averaging 11.7 points and 9.4 rebounds per game. She is now fifth in the MAC in rebounding with 7.5 rebounds per game. NIU has three of the top-10 rebounders in the conference with Mikayla Brandon (Bourbonnais, Ill./Bradley-Bourbonnais) fourth at 7.9 rebounds per game and Chelby Koker (Racine, Wis./Shoreland Lutheran) ninth at 6.9.
 
After finishing December on a four-game losing streak, NIU is 5-1 in the month of January. The Huskies are averaging 80 points per game this month, shooting 45.2 percent from the field and 40 percent from the three-point line. NIU has led at halftime and outrebounded each of its opponents over the last six games while holding opponents to 68.2 points per game. The Huskies are third in the MAC in scoring offense at 76.1 points per game and second in field goal percentage at 42.6 percent and three-point field goals made at 10 per game.
 
Miami (1-13, 0-10 MAC) took Ball State to the brink Wednesday night but came up short 85-82 at Worthen Arena. Peyton Scott led the RedHawks with 19 points, 13 assists and eight rebounds. Scott leads Miami with 19.2 points and 5.4 rebounds per game. NIU took a 22-21 lead in the all-time series with Miami after winning 87-79 on Jan. 16 at Millett Hall. Koker scored a career-high 29 points in the win as Brandon had a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds.
 
Following Saturday's game, NIU hosts Bowling Green on Wednesday, Feb. 3. Tip-off is at 6 p.m. with the game being broadcast on ESPN+.
