Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Keshawn Williams Nets Career High But Huskies Fall at Indiana

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Keshawn Williams (Chicago Heights, Ill./Tulsa) scored a career-high 21 points as the Northern Illinois University men's basketball team fell to Indiana, 85-49, on Friday night (Nov. 12) at Assembly Hall.

"A little disappointed," said NIU head coach Rashon Burno. "Indiana is a strong, senior-laden team. I thought their physicality really changed the momentum after the first TV timeout. My guys competed, but we ran into a team that Coach (Woodson) had ready to go out and compete for 40 minutes. We have to make some adjustments but hats off to Indiana, they played a phenomenal game on the defensive end.

"We have to get better; we ran into a better defensive team. We have a lot to learn, we will get a chance to watch the film, make some adjustments and get ready for (Missouri) Thursday."

With the contest knotted at seven in the early going, Indiana used a seven-point burst to take a 14-7 lead with 12:46 to play in the opening half.

The Indiana lead was still seven, 16-9, when the Hoosiers used a six-point spurt to push their advantage to 22-9 just past the midway point of the first stanza. Indiana then scored 12-straight to take its lead to 34-11 before Williams ended the run with a fastbreak layup.

Williams led NIU with seven first half points as Indiana was in front, 47-20, at the intermission. Trayce Jackson-Davis had 17 for the Hoosiers as Indiana shot 51.7 percent (15-of-29) from the field in the opening 20 minutes.

In the second half, Williams continued to be the hot hand for the Huskies as he went 5-of-8 from the field in the second 20 minutes, and 4-of-5 from the charity stripe, as he netted 14 of his game-high 21 after the break.

Indiana took advantage of 23 Huskie turnovers, turning them into 26 points, while NIU scored just eight points of Indiana's 15 miscues. The Hoosiers also took advantage inside as they held a 36-18 edge in points in the paint in the contest.

Jackson-Davis finished with a team-high 19 points for Indiana, Xavier Johnson added 13 points while Race Thompson added 12 points and 10 rebounds.

NIU will return to action on Thursday, Nov. 18, when it travels to Columbia, Mo., to meet the Missouri Tigers. Game time at Missouri is slated for 7 p.m. and will be available on SEC Network Plus.
