DeKALB, IL – The Northern Illinois University volleyball team won its third straight match Friday night, defeating the Buffalo Bulls 3-2 (25-21, 24-26, 25-22, 13-25, 15-11) to get one step closer to locking up the sixth and final berth into the upcoming Mid-American Conference Tournament.
"We knew we were in for a battle tonight," said head coach
Ray Gooden. "Buffalo has been battling and improving. It was great for us to get off to a good start but give Buffalo credit for continuing to fight and pushing us to the limit. Our group hung in there and played positive volleyball at the end."
NIU (14-12, 8-8 MAC) had four players tally double-digit kills in the win.
Katie Jablonski (Elburn, Ill./New Hampshire) and

"We win with defense and togetherness," Gooden said. "Our defense picked it up at the end and we scrapped a little better and played well together at the end. Our backline of Miranda [Karlen], Franki [Bertucci] and Sam [Juarez] did whatever it took to keep points alive, which led to our offense having the showing it did tonight."
