Huskies Travel To Harvard For Sunday Showdown

DeKALB, IL – The Northern Illinois University women's basketball team goes on the road for the first time in the 2021-22 season Sunday afternoon for a matchup at Harvard. Game time against the Crimson is set for 1 p.m. CT with the game being broadcast on ESPN+.
 
NIU (1-0) opened the season with a 77-60 win over Illinois State at the NIU Convocation Center Tuesday night. The Huskies had all five starters score in double figures led by junior guard Chelby Koker's (Racine, Wis./Shoreland Lutheran) 17 points and four assists. It was the 25th consecutive game Koker scored at least 10 points. Reigning Mid-American Conference Sixth Player of the Year Janae Poisson (Matteson, Ill./Marian Catholic) made four three-pointers and scored 16 points.
 
The Huskies picked up where they left off last season rebounding the basketball Tuesday night. NIU had a rebound margin of 11, 43-32, over the Redbirds. The Huskies turned 14 offensive rebounds into 22 second-chance points. Junior forward A'Jah Davis (DeKalb, Ill./Montverde Academy [Fla.]) led all players with 15 rebounds Tuesday night, adding 15 rebounds for her eighth career double-double. NIU led the MAC with a +6.3 rebound margin last season.
 
The Crimson are 0-2 on the season after an 80-71 loss at UMass Friday night. Harvard led 57-54 after three quarters but was held to 27.8 percent shooting from the field in the final quarter as UMass rallied for the win. Junior guard McKinzie Forbes led Harvard with 20 points, eight rebounds and seven assists. Sophomore guard Lola Mullaney is averaging 15 points and 3.5 rebounds per game to start the year. Harvard is averaging 65.5 points per game through two games, shooting 34 percent from the field.  The Crimson won the first and only meeting between the two teams 59-53 on Nov. 5, 2019 at the Convocation Center.
