Brown Claims MAC Weekly Honor

Huskie safety earns MAC West Defensive POTW

DEKALB, Ill. – Northern Illinois University safety C.J. Brown earned his first Mid-American Conference Player of the Week honor following his career-night at Buffalo as he was named MAC West Defensive Player of the Week the league announced on Monday.

Brown made a career high 13 tackles, including 10 solo stops, to lead the Huskies' defensive effort versus the Bulls.  Brown's 1.5 tackles for loss were also a career best. Brown's efforts helped the Huskies limit Buffalo to just 162 passing yards on 16 completions. He made eight of his 13 tackles in the second half and overtime, including two on UB's offensive possession in overtime that eventually led to a Huskie fumble recovery.

Brown is the ninth different Huskie to claim MAC West Player of the Week honors this season and the third Huskie defensive player to garner a weekly award from the league. The Canton, Mich. native joins Dillon Thomas, who earned his award following the Eastern Michigan game, and Lance Deveaux Jr. who picked up the same honor after NIU's win at Georgia Tech.

The Huskies (8-3, 6-1) are return home Wed., Nov. 23 when NIU welcomes Western Michigan (6-5, 3-4) to Huskie Stadium. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. CT and will be aired on ESPNU.
