DEKALB, Ill. – The national honors continue to roll in for
Nick Markanich (Bourbonnais, Ill./Bradley-Bourbonnais) of the Northern Illinois University men's soccer team as he has been named to the College Soccer News All-America Third Team. It marks the second honor of the week for Markanich who was also named to the Top Drawer Soccer Best XI Third Team.
Markanich led the nation in scoring during the 2021 season, scoring 16 goals. He also tied for the national lead in game-winning goals with seven, level with A.J. Chastonay of Belmont, and was third in the country with 37 total points.
Along with College Soccer News and Top Drawer Soccer national honors, Markanich claimed a spot on the United Soccer Coaches All-North Region First Team, was named the Mid-American Conference Player of the Year for the second consecutive season, earned All-MAC First Team status for the third year in a row and was also the MAC Tournament Most Valuable Player.
Markanich is one of just two players from the MAC to earn College Soccer News All-America recognition, along with Georgia State's George Proctor.
In his four years as a Huskie, the forward from Bourbonnais, Ill., has scored 39 goals, fourth-best in school history, and recorded 87 points, sixth-most in program history.
Markanich and the Huskies had one of the best seasons in school history in 2021, tying the school record with 15 wins, winning both the MAC Regular Season and Tournament crowns while advancing to the NCAA Tournament Second Round.
