DEKALB, Ill. – The Northern Illinois University men's tennis team remained undefeated as it defeated North Dakota, 6-1, on Monday afternoon (Feb. 1) at Chick Evans Field House. With the victory, the Huskies improved to 3-0 on the season. 

"I am really happy with how we competed and played," said NIU head coach Patrick Fisher. "We could not have asked for a better start to the season and we just have to take it week-by-week. These guys literally played like this could be their last opportunity to play, it was really fun to see them fight with so much spirit. I'm happy for the freshmen to get their first wins, Luke (VanDonslear) and Armin (Koschtojan), they played great doubles and singles today."

In doubles, Mikko Malinen and Victor Spolidorio were 6-2 winners over Lucas Percy and Cian McDonnell at number one; Armin Koschtojan and Luke VanDonslear won by an identical 6-2 scoreline at number three over Petro Alex and Edmond Aynedjian. The Huskies completed the doubles sweep with a 6-4 win at number two by Oliver Valentinsson and Kristopher Ortega against Gerhard Sullwald and Johnatan Parat. 

Mikael Vollbach lost just five games in taking his singles match, 6-2, 6-3, at number five over Aynedjian. Bor Schweiger Muzar and Valentinsson posted identical, 6-3, 6-4 wins, with Muzar winning at number one over Sullwald and Valentinsson topping McDonnell at number three. 

Koschtojan outlasted Percy, 7-6, in the first set at number four before taking the second set, 6-2, to earn the victory. At number six, VanDonslear won 6-1, 7-6, over Alex. 

NIU will head on the road for the first time this weekend as the Huskies travel to Omaha, Neb. The Huskies will take on Creighton on Friday, February 5 and Omaha on Saturday, February 6.
