DEKALB, Ill. – Northern Illinois University softball's Carley Goetschius was named Mid-American Conference Player of the Week following her performance at the FGCU Invitational the league announced on Tuesday.
 
Goetschius led the way for NIU during their 3-2 weekend at the FGCU Invitational to open the 2021 season. The Huskie junior batted .429 and slugged .714, pounding out six hits in 14 at bats, including a double and a home run. She went 2-for-3 in a 4-1 win over the host Eagles for NIU's first win of the season and was 1-for-2 with a double in a 1-0 victory over FIU in the first game of day two of the tournament.
 
She wrapped her weekend up with a 1-for-3 day in the Huskies' 3-0 triumph over the Panthers in the event finale. Her lone hit on the day was a solo homer to left field to put NIU up 1-0 in the second inning.
 
The Huskies return to action Saturday, Mar. 6 when NIU travels to Grand Canyon for a weekend series with the Lopes. First pitch for game one of the doubleheader is set for 2 p.m. Central Time.
