DEKALB, Ill. – The Northern Illinois University men's basketball team returns home for the final time this season on Tuesday night, March 2, when the Huskies host Western Michigan. Tipoff against the Broncos is slated for 6 p.m. and will be available on ESPN+.
Last time out against Eastern Michigan, sophomore
Tyler Cochran (Bolingbrook, Ill./Bolingbrook) scored a team-high 20 points, his third 20-plus point game in the last four contests. Cochran is averaging 19.3 points per game over that four-game stretch.
Junior
Trendon Hankerson (Novi, Mich./Novi) added 18 points against the Eagles, including four three-pointers. Hankerson has made 26 triples in the last nine games and is shooting 41.9 percent from beyond the arc in those contests. As a team, the Huskies are shooting 38.8 percent from three-point range during the last nine games.
Sophomore
Kaleb Thornton (Bolingbrook, Ill./Iowa Western CC) dished out five assists against Eastern Michigan last Saturday and is averaging 5.7 assists per game over the last three contests.
The Broncos come to DeKalb with a 4-15 overall record, including a 3-11 Mid-American Conference mark. Western Michigan dropped a 91-44 decision at Toledo last time out (Feb. 27). WMU has two players scoring in double figures with B. Artis White leading the way with 14.3 points per contest. Greg Lee adds 13.1 points per game, along with a team-high 7.1 rebounds per contest.
NIU has won three-straight home games against Western Michigan, and six of the last seven against the Broncos in DeKalb.
The Huskies will conclude the 2020-21 season on Friday, March 5, when they travel to Central Michigan. Game time against the Chippewas is scheduled for 4 p.m. CT on ESPN3.
