DEKALB, Ill. – The Northern Illinois University women's soccer team hosts Eastern Michigan on Sunday, March 14, in its lone match of the weekend. Kickoff against the Eagles is scheduled for 3 p.m.
NIU earned a weekend split in its first two matches of the season last week. The Huskies opened the campaign with a 1-0 setback against Western Michigan (March 4) before earning a 2-1 overtime victory at Toledo (March 7). Senior
Haley Hoppe (Austin, Texas/Rouse) scored the game-tying goal against the Rockets with five minutes left in regulation before freshman
Kierah Meier (Sycamore, Ill./Sycamore) netted the game-winner just over three minutes into the extra session.
Junior
Julia Lentz (Bolingbrook, Ill./Bolingbrook) and senior
Megan Donnally (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield North) split time in goal in the win over the Rockets. Lentz made six stops against Toledo while Donnally was credited with three saves.
Eastern Michigan comes to DeKalb with a 1-1 overall record, having defeated Central Michigan, 2-1, in its season opener before falling at Western Michigan, 4-0. Sarah Ash and Lexy Alston each scored goals in the victory over the Chippewas while Chelsea Abbotts has played in goal in both matches for the Eagles, recording a 2.62 goals against average and a .545 save percentage.
Members of the general public are now welcome to attend NIU home soccer matches with capacity of the NIU Soccer Complex limited to 20 percent, or just under 400 total.
