Huskies Fall at Illinois State

NIU softball drops midweek MAC tune up

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – The Northern Illinois University softball team suffered a 6-0 setback to in-state foe Illinois State at Marian Kneer Stadium in the final tune up for the Huskies' Mid-American Conference portion of their schedule on Wednesday.
 
NIU's (6-12) bats were held to two hits on the day, both by Amberly Rodriguez.
 
Illinois State (16-4) raced out to a 5-0 lead with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first and three more in the second. The Redbirds added an extra run in the bottom of the fourth.
 
Pitcher Emily Dato was very effective in relief, allowing one run on two hits, while striking out two in three-and-two-thirds innings
 
The Huskies return to the diamond Friday, Mar. 26 when NIU plays host to Kent State for the Huskies' 2021 home opener and their first home contest since May 4, 2019. NIU and the Golden Flashes will play a doubleheader on Friday, starting at 2 p.m. with single games on Saturday and Sunday.
