DEKALB, Ill. – The Northern Illinois University women's soccer team begins its week with a trip to Central Michigan on Thursday, Sept. 30, before the Huskies return home to host Eastern Michigan on Sunday afternoon, Oct. 3, at 2 p.m. Sunday's match will be Alumni Day with returning women's soccer alums to be recognized prior to the contest.
NIU comes into the second week of conference action with a 1-1 mark in the league, 4-6 overall. The Huskies earned a 2-1 victory at Bowling Green last time out (Sept. 26).
Amanda Czerniak (South Elgin, Ill./St. Charles North) and
Edith Delgado (Aurora, Ill./East Aurora) each scored in the win for the Huskies while
Sadie McGill (Fort Worth, Texas/North Texas) tied a season-high with eight saves in the victory.
McGill currently leads the MAC, and ranks 32nd nationally, in saves averaging 6.22 per contest.
Haley Hoppe (Austin, Texas/Rouse) is second in the conference on both goals, six, and points, 14.
Central Michigan enters the weekend with a 3-5 overall record after dropping its first two conference games against Miami, 1-0 in overtime, and Ball State, 2-1. All eight matches played by the Chippewas this season have been decided by a one-goal margin, including six 1-0 results. Gaelle Wells leads Central Michigan with three goals while Allison LaPoint has played all eight games in goal, posting a 1.09 goals against average and a .809 save percentage.
Eastern Michigan begins the week with a 1-6-2 overall mark, 0-1-1 in league play, and will host Western Michigan on Thursday before traveling to DeKalb. The Eagles opened the MAC season with a 0-0 draw against Ball State before falling to Miami, 2-1. Six different players have each scored one goal for Eastern Michigan while Amanda Cripps leads the Eagles with three points, Chelsea Abbotts has played six matches in goal, posting a 1.71 goals against average and a .761 save percentage.
Following this weekend's matches, the Huskies will head to the State of Ohio to square off with Kent State on Thursday, Oct. 7.
