DeKALB, IL – The Northern Illinois University women's basketball team plays the first of two road games this week Wednesday night when Huskies take on the Miami RedHawks at Millett Hall. Tip-off is at 6 p.m. CT with the game broadcast locally on WLBK 98.9 FM/1360 AM as well as the NIU Huskies App. The game will also be shown on ESPN3.
NIU (4-8, 1-3 MAC) leads the overall series against Miami 23-21. The Huskies have won each of the last three meetings against Miami, including both matchups last season. Junior guard
Chelby Koker (Racine, Wis./Shoreland Lutheran) has averaged over 19 points per game in four career games against Miami. She scored 55 points combined in NIU's two wins over the RedHawks last season. Koker is second in the nation in free throw shooting this season at 97.4 percent.
A'Jah Davis (DeKalb, Ill./Montverde Academy [Fla.]) posted her ninth double-double of the season last Saturday against Toledo with a game-high 24 points and 10 rebounds. It was her fifth straight double-double. Davis is leading the Mid-American Conference in field goal percentage at 51.6 percent and rebounding at 11.4 per game. She is 12
th in the country in rebounding, helping guide NIU to the top of the conference in rebounding per game. NIU is averaging 43.42 rebounds per game and has outrebounded its opponent in three of the last four games.
Miami (5-7, 1-2 MAC) won its first MAC game of the season Monday night, defeating Ohio at Millett Hall 63-60. Ivy Wolf's three-pointer with 1:35 to go in the game broke a 56-56 tie and gave the RedHawks the lead for good. Edyn Battle led Miami with 18 points and five assists off the bench. Junior guard Peyton Scott leads Miami with 18.3 points and 6.6 rebounds per game. The RedHawks are fourth in the MAC in rebounding with 40.0 per game.
Following Wednesday's game, NIU heads to Ypsilanti, Mich. to take on Eastern Michigan on Saturday, Jan. 22 at 1 p.m. CT.
