Huskies and Eagles Set For Saturday Showdown

DeKALB, IL – The Northern Illinois University women's basketball team is back on the road this Saturday to take on the Eastern Michigan Eagles at 1 p.m. at the George Gervin GameAbove Center. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+ as well as locally on WSQR 92.9 FM/1180 AM and the Varsity Network app.
 
NIU (4-9, 1-4 MAC) held a late lead Wednesday night at Miami but could not stave off a RedHawks rally in a 61-56 loss at Millett Hall. Junior guard Chelby Koker (Racine, Wis./Shoreland Lutheran) led all scorers with 20 points, with 10 points coming in the first quarter alone. Koker is now at 978 career points, 22 away from 1,000. She is second in the nation in free throw percentage at 97.5 percent, trailing only Haley Cavinder of Fresno State's 98.1 percent. As a team, the Huskies lead the Mid-American Conference in free throw percentage at 75.3 percent.
 
A'Jah Davis (DeKalb, Ill./Montverde Academy [Fla.]) had double-digit rebounds for the sixth straight game Wednesday night with a game-high 11. Mikayla Brandon (Bourbonnais, Ill./Bradley-Bourbonnais) added 10 boards. It was the fourth game this season that NIU had two players with double-digit rebounds. Davis is 12th in the nation in rebounding, leading the MAC with 11.4 per game. She is also fifth in the country with 4.8 offensive rebounds per game.
 
Eastern Michigan (4-8, 1-4 MAC) enters Saturday's game coming off a 62-57 loss at home to Western Michigan Wednesday night. The Broncos outscored the Eagles 24-19 in the fourth quarter to break a 38-38 tie. Juanita Agosto led the Eagles with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Ce'Nara Skanes added 13 points and seven rebounds. Skanes is seventh in the MAC in rebounding at 8.1 rebounds per game. Areanna Combs leads Eastern Michigan in scoring at 16.2 points per game. The Eagles are fourth in the MAC in both field goal percentage (43.1 percent) and three-point field goal percentage (34.2 percent).
 
NIU is back at the Convocation Center on Monday, Jan. 24 to face the Akron Zips at 6 p.m. for Fan Appreciation Night. Fans can purchase $2 general admission tickets at the following link. The first 100 fans entering the Convocation Center Monday night will receive a free NIU cup. The first 100 students will receive free pizza. Fans will also be able to enter a raffle for a chance to win a basketball signed by the NIU women's basketball team.
