DeKALB, IL – The Northern Illinois University women's basketball team looks to build on one of its best offensive outputs of the season Monday night when it hosts the Akron Zips at 6 p.m. at the NIU Convocation Center. The game will be broadcast on ESPN3 as well as locally on WLBK 98.9 FM/1360 AM and the NIU Huskies app.
Monday's game is Fan Appreciation Night. Fans can purchase $2 general admission tickets at the following
link. The first 100 fans entering the Convocation Center Monday night will receive a free NIU cup. The first 100 students will receive free pizza. Fans will also be able to enter a raffle for a chance to win a basketball signed by the NIU women's basketball team.
NIU (5-9, 2-4 MAC) scored a season-high 85 points on Saturday in an 85-76 win at Eastern Michigan. The Huskies set season-highs of 57.1 percent field goal shooting and 64.7 percent three-point shooting for their second Mid-American Conference win of the year. NIU shot over 70 percent from the field in the first half to build a 48-36 halftime advantage.
Chelby Koker (Racine, Wis./Shoreland Lutheran) scored 17 points with a game-high six assists at Eastern Michigan. She now has 995 career points, putting her just five away from 1,000 for her career. Koker is fourth in the nation in free throw percentage at 93.8 percent and is fourth in the MAC with 4.43 assists per game.
A'Jah Davis (DeKalb, Ill./Montverde Academy [Fla.]) recorded double-digit rebounds for the seventh straight game on Saturday. Davis led all players with 23 points and 13 rebounds in the win over Eastern Michigan for her 10
th double-double of the season. The junior forward is leading the MAC with 11.5 rebounds per game as well as in field goal percentage at 51.7 percent.
Akron (7-5, 4-2 MAC) is 4-2 in MAC play after a 76-59 loss at Buffalo last Wednesday. The loss snapped a four-game winning streak for Akron dating back to Jan. 5. Reagan Bass led Akron with 18 points against the Bulls with Jordyn Dawson adding 13 points. Dawson is fifth in the MAC in scoring (19.1 points/game) and sixth in rebounding (8.5 rebounds/game). The Zips are fourth in the league in scoring defense, allowing 64.3 points per game.
NIU is home on Wednesday, Jan. 26 to take on Kent State at 11 a.m. for Education Day. Huskie Flex Plans are now available for the 2021-22 basketball season.
