Women's Basketball Closes January With Road Contest At Western Michigan

DeKALB, IL – The Northern Illinois University women's basketball team looks to get back in the win column Monday night when the Huskies take on the Western Michigan Broncos at University Arena. Tip-off is at 6 p.m CT with the game broadcast available locally on WLBK 98.9 FM/1360 AM and the NIU Huskies App. It will also be broadcast on ESPN3.
 
NIU (7-10, 4-5 MAC) had its three-game winning streak snapped on Saturday afternoon in a 68-61 loss at Buffalo. The Huskies trailed by 11 points at halftime, but closed to within two with 2:29 to play. A'Jah Davis (DeKalb, Ill./Montverde Academy [Fla.]) led NIU with 19 points and a game-high 10 rebounds for her 12th double-double of the season. Janae Poisson (Matteson, Ill./Marian Catholic) had 18 points and a career-high six rebounds.
 
Poisson leads the Mid-American Conference with 3.06 three-pointers per game, which puts her seventh in the country. Over the last five games Poisson is averaging 13.2 points, 3.2 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game. As a team, NIU is shooting 33.9 percent from the three-point arc in conference games and are fourth in the league with 7.8 three-pointers per game.
 
Western Michigan (11-5, 5-2) are in second place in the MAC following a 74-64 win over Ohio on Saturday. The Broncos made 15 three-pointers for their third win in the last four games. Sydney Shafer led Western Michigan with 20 points off the bench as Lauren Ross added 16. Ross is third in the MAC in scoring at 19.7 points per game. Western Michigan is second in the conference in scoring defense, allowing 59.8 points per game.
 
NIU returns to the Convocation Center on Wednesday, Feb. 2 to take on Bowling Green for National Girls and Women in Sports Day.
