KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Northern Illinois University women's basketball team erased an eight-point halftime deficit to the Western Michigan Broncos Monday night with a 26-point third quarter as the Huskies went on to with 61-47 at University Arena.
"This is a group that just refuses to quit," said head coach
Lisa Carlsen. "In the second half we saw a real growth and maturation and an understanding of what we're going to have to do to have success now. I couldn't be prouder of this group for how its handled the challenges we've faced and the schedule we've had to play."
A'Jah Davis (DeKalb, Ill./Montverde Academy [Fla.]) led all players with 17 points and 12 rebounds for her 13th double-double of the season.
Paulina Castro was a perfect 5-for-5 from the three-point arc to tie her career-high of 15 points.
Janae Poisson (Matteson, Ill./Marian Catholic) had 12 points, all in the second half, with five rebounds and a career-high six assists.

"I was proud of the way we played defense throughout the game," Carlsen said. "We were as connected on that end of the floor as we were offensively. Each player understood what they needed to do and that was on display in the second half."
Western Michigan (11-6, 5-3 MAC) opened the game on a 10-4 run, getting five points from Reilly Jacobson and a three from Maddy Watters at the 3:03 mark.
