John Richardson (Orland Park, Ill./Brother Rice) of the Northern Illinois University football team was named the Mid-American Conference West Division Special Teams Player of the Week for his four field goals in Saturday's win at Eastern Michigan.
Richardson was 4-for-4 on field goal attempts in the Huskies' 39-10 win over the Eagles, hitting from 41, 39, 28 and 33 yards. He also made all three of his PATs for 15 points, one point shy of tying his single-game career high. This is the fifth time Richardson has been named Special Teams Player of the Week in his career. He earned the honor twice last season and two more times in 2019.
Richardson is the fourth different Huskie to earn MAC West Player of the Week accolades this season. Sophomore cornerback
Eric Rogers (Burlington, N.J./Burlington Township) and linebacker
Daveren Rayner (Indianapolis, Ind./Lawrence Central) have been named Defensive Players of the Week and punter
Tom Foley (Peoria, Ill./Peoria Notre Dame/Minnesota) has also earned Special Teams Player of the Week honors.
NIU is back on the road this Saturday, Oct. 21, to face the Ohio Bobcats at 1 p.m. CT. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+.
