DeKALB, Illinois – The Northern Illinois University women's tennis team wrapped up play at the Huskie Fall Indoor Invitational Sunday by winning all 10 of its singles matches on the day.
On Sunday, most of the Huskies were in action against opponents from Lewis University, led by Dimitriev who recorded a 6-1, 6-1 win over Anabel Aguilar. Meanwhile, freshmen McKenna Chudy and Jenna Horne were dominant in matching 6-1, 6-0 wins over St. Thomas' Abigail Bremel and Emme Johnson, respectively.
"We played really well today to finish it off," said head coach Eric Burns. "I was really proud of the effort all weekend. This was the second tournament where everyone was able to play and it gave us another chance to see everyone play with different competition. Everyone should get a lot of confidence from this weekend because everyone played so well. Most of the team was really sharp with their play in doubles and singles, and it was a really positive weekend."
During the three-day tournament, played inside the Nelson Tennis Center at Chick Evans Field House, the Huskies went 25-2 in singles and posted a 12-5 record in doubles, capped by Erika Dimitriev and Angelica Ross claiming the doubles title on Saturday.
"Erika Dimitriev is playing really well right now," Burns said. "Since [the tournament] at Michigan State, she has worked hard to get her game back where it needs to be. Reagan [Welch] had a good fall, Isabella [Righi] had a good fall, Nastia [Rakita] is coming back after not playing much in the spring due to injury. It really boils down to getting these players matches and experience, and build to get ready for the dual season."
