NIU Puts Seven-Game Home Court Winning Streak On The Line

DeKALB, IL – The Northern Illinois University women's basketball team wraps up its current three-game homestand Thursday night, hosting the Western Illinois Leathernecks at the NIU Convocation Center. Tip-off is at 6 p.m.

NIU (2-1) extended its home court winning streak to seven games on Tuesday with a 61-53 win over Southern Indiana on Education Day. The Huskies outscored the Screaming Eagles 21-6 in the third quarter to turn a two-point halftime lead into a 48-31 advantage going into the fourth quarter. NIU is averaging 72.9 points per game at the Convocation Center during this seven-game home winning streak, winning by an average of 10.8 points per game.
 
Chelby Koker (Racine, Wis./Shoreland Lutheran) and A'Jah Davis (DeKalb, Ill./Montverde Academy [Fla.]) both led NIU in scoring Tuesday with 15 points each. Davis was a rebound shy of a double-double, leading all players with nine. She was a perfect 5-for-5 from the field and 5-for-6 at the free throw line. Koker led all players with five assists on Tuesday. She is 7-for-10 from the three-point line in the last two games. The duo is the top-two leading scorers on the team through three games with Koker averaging 15.0 points per game and Davis 14.7.
 
Western Illinois is 0-3 to start the season after a 64-62 loss to Eastern Illinois at Western Hall on Monday night. A last-second three from Elizabeth Lutz was off the mark as the Leathernecks nearly overcame a five-point deficit in the final 45 seconds of regulation. Jada Thorpe led Western Illinois with 17 points and four steals in the game. She leads the Leathernecks in scoring at 14.7 points per game.
 
The Huskies go on the road Tuesday, Nov. 22 to face the Detroit Mercy Titans. Tip-off at Calihan Hall is set for 3 p.m. CT.
