Huskies Return Home To Face SIUE Saturday

NIU Looks For First 9-1 Start Since 1971

DeKALB, IL – After a month of games on the road, the Northern Illinois University women's basketball team returns to the Convocation Center Saturday to take on the SIUE Cougars. Tip-off is at 12 p.m. with the game broadcast on ESPN3, as well as locally on WDKB 94-9 FM and the NIU Huskies and Varsity Network apps.
 
The Huskies are partnering with Safe Passage Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Crisis Center of DeKalb for a Holiday Donation Drive. Fans are asked to bring donations of cleaning and hygiene supplies to the Marketing table in front of Section 106. For a full list of suggested items, click on the following link.
 
The first 200 hundred fans in attendance Saturday will receive a free, limited edition "Fired Up Huskies" poster. There will also be an appearance from Santa and Mrs. Claus. General Admission tickets are $6 with reserved seats at $8.
 
NIU (8-1) won its eighth consecutive game last Monday night with a 67-56 win at Lindenwood. It was the third time this season the Huskies held an opponent under 60 points. NIU outrebounded the Lions by eight, 38-30, helping the Huskies move into the Mid-American Conference lead in rebound margin at +2.4. A'Jah Davis (DeKalb, Ill./Montverde Academy [Fla.]) had her fifth straight double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds. She is 13th in the nation in rebounding, averaging 10.9 per game.
 
Chelby Koker (Racine, Wis./Shoreland Lutheran) led the Huskies in scoring with 26 points at Lindenwood, her second straight game with 26 points. She also had a career-high seven steals. It was the first time Koker had back-to-back 20-point efforts since finishing the 2020-21 season with five straight 20-point games.
 
A win Saturday would give NIU its first 9-1 start since 1971. The Huskies lead the all-time series with SIUE 7-3, winning the last meeting in Edwardsville 86-75 on Dec. 17, 2017. The Cougars were last in action on Dec. 11, falling 83-76 at Western Illinois to move to 0-8 on the season. Sofie Lowis led SIUE with 20 points as Madison Webb had a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds.
 
The Huskies wrap up non-conference play on Wednesday, Dec. 21 at IUPUI. Tip-off is at 12 p.m. CT.
