Huskies Entertain Rockets in Second Game of Saturday Doubleheader

DEKALB, Ill. – The Northern Illinois University men's basketball team will host the Toledo Rockets on Saturday afternoon, Feb. 12, in the second game of a Huskie doubleheader at the NIU Convocation Center. The NIU women's basketball team will host Buffalo at 1 p.m. with the men's game against Toledo slated for 3:30 p.m. Saturday is Beat Cancer Day, with the first 150 fans receiving an NIU Huskies Beat Cancer T-shirt. 

NIU's matchup against the Rockets begins a busy stretch of seven games in 15 days, including makeup games on each of the next two Thursdays. 

Last time out against Akron, three Huskies scored in double figures, led by 19 points from Keshawn Williams (Chicago Heights, Ill./Tulsa). Trendon Hankerson (Novi, Mich./Novi) added 14 points and Anthony Crump (Inkster, Mich./Middle Tennessee) chipped in 11 points. 

In conference games, Williams ranks sixth in the Mid-American Conference in scoring, averaging 18.3 points per game, and is also in the top-10 in three-point percentage and free-throw percentage. 

Kaleb Thornton (Bolingbrook, Ill./Iowa Western CC) is third in league play in assists, dishing out 4.8 per contest, while Adong Makuoi (Edmonton, Alberta, Canada/Daytona State College) is ranked seventh in the MAC in field goal percentage in conference play, shooting 55 percent. 

The Rockets come to DeKalb with a 19-5 overall record, 11-2 in MAC play, which is tied with Ohio for the conference lead. Toledo beat the Bobcats, 77-62, last time out (Feb. 8). Four players score in double figures for the Rockets, led by 19.8 points per game from Ryan Rollins. JT Shumate adds 15.3 points per game, Setric Millner Jr. is averaging 14.2 points per contest and RayJ Dennis chips in 11.9 points per game. 

Toledo is second in the MAC, and 16th nationally, with 80.5 points per game. The Rockets also rank 13th in the country in free throw percentage, shooting 77.8 percent.
