Huskies Look For Season Sweep Of Eagles At Convocation Center

DeKALB, IL – Winners of five of its last six games at the NIU Convocation Center, the Northern Illinois University women's basketball team hosts the Eastern Michigan Eagles Wednesday night at 6 p.m. for Season Ticket Holder Appreciation Night. The game will be broadcast on ESPN3.

NIU (11-13, 8-8 MAC) shot 50.9 percent from the field last Saturday afternoon in a 73-55 win over Western Michigan. The Huskies shot over 70 percent in the second quarter alone to take a 40-21 halftime lead. A'Jah Davis (DeKalb, Ill./Montverde Academy [Fla.]) led all players with 18 points, 10 rebounds and four assists for her 19th double-double of the season. She is tied for third in the nation in double-doubles and fifth in rebounding at 12.0 per game.
 
Jayden Marable (Bolingbrook, Ill./Bolingbrook) scored a career-high 16 points against the Broncos last Saturday. Marable was 8-for-11 from the field and added five rebounds, three assists and a steal. It was her third straight game scoring in double figures. She has a 1.9 assist/turnover ratio over the last eight games.
 
The Huskies have held nine of their last 11 opponents to 70 points or less. In seven of those games NIU as held the opposition to 30 percent or less from the three-point line. Saturday's win was the sixth time this season NIU held an opponent to 60 points or less. The Huskies are 27-2 during head coach Lisa Carlsen's tenure when holding an opponent to 60 points or less.
 
NIU won the first meeting against Eastern Michigan 85-76 on Jan. 22 in Ypsilanti, Mich. The Huskies set season-highs in points, field goal percentage at 57.1 percent and three-point field goal percentage at 64.7 percent in the win. NIU has won five of the last seven meetings against Eastern Michigan.
 
Eastern Michigan (7-16, 4-12 MAC) won its second straight game last Saturday in an 83-70 win over Central Michigan. Redshirt-sophomore forward Ce'Nara Skanes led all players with 19 points and 16 rebounds. Areanna Combs added 17 points and eight assists. Combs leads the Eagles with 18.7 points, 3.7 assists and 2.6 steals per game.
 
Following Wednesday's game NIU goes on the road this Saturday, Feb. 26 to take on the Ball State Cardinals at 12 p.m. CT.
