DeKALB, IL – The Northern Illinois University women's basketball team puts its three-game winning streak on the line Wednesday night when it travels to take on the Toledo Rockets at Savage Arena. Tip-off is at 6 p.m. with the game broadcast on ESPN3.
NIU (13-13, 10-8 MAC) shot 68 percent from the field in the second half of Saturday's 77-72 win at Ball State, erasing a five-point halftime deficit. The Huskies outscored the Cardinals 29-12 in the third quarter, shooting over 70 percent from the field.
A'Jah Davis (DeKalb, Ill./Montverde Academy [Fla.]) led all players with 23 points and 13 rebounds in the victory, her 10
th straight double-double and 21
st of the season. In the last 10 games Davis is averaging 17.3 points and 12.6 rebounds per game. She is third in the nation in double-doubles and fifth in rebounding at 12.0 per game.
The Huskies are averaging 74.0 points per game during their current three-game winning streak, winning by an average of 10.0 points per game. NIU has had a rebound margin of +7.7 in that stretch as well. The Huskies have won five of their last seven games to move into fourth place in the Mid-American Conference at 10-8 with two games to go in the regular season. The top eight teams qualify for next week's MAC Championship in Cleveland. NIU is a half-game up on Ball State and a full game up on Kent State, Western Michigan, Bowling Green and Ohio who are all tied for sixth.
Toledo (23-4, 17-1 MAC) clinched the MAC regular season championship last Saturday in its 75-51 victory at Eastern Michigan. The Rockets shot 43.9 percent from the field in their ninth straight win, holding the Eagles to 31 percent from the field and just 5-for-18 from the three-point line. Junior forward Quinesha Lockett led all players with 16 points, adding seven rebounds. Lockett is eighth in the MAC in scoring at 17.8 points per game. Toledo leads the MAC in scoring defense at just 59.9 points per game, as well as field goal percentage defense at 36.2 percent.
