Huskies Complete Perfect 3-0 Trip to Canada

TORONTO – The Northern Illinois University men's basketball team competed its foreign trip to Canada with a 112-82 victory over Toronto Metropolitan University on Friday night (Aug. 5) at the Mattamy Athletic Center. The contest marked the second time on the trip that the Huskies eclipsed the 100-point mark as NIU averaged 106.0 points per game during the three contests. 

Brief summaries of each of NIU's three games are below. 

Tuesday, Aug. 2: at Windsor -- W, 131-76
NIU opened its trip to Canada with a dominant 131-76 victory on Tuesday night at Windsor. Six Huskies scored in double figures, led by 25 points from Zion Russell. The Huskies led by eight, 29-21, at the end of the first quarter before stretching their lead to 65-34 at the half with a 36-13 edge in the second quarter. 

David Coit scored 20 points, Zarique Nutter had 18, Darweshi Hunter and Xavier Amos each added 17 and Kaleb Thornton chipped in a dozen, along with a game-high five assists, in the victory.  

Thursday, Aug. 4: vs. Ottawa (at Toronto Metropolitan) -- W, 75-71
The Huskies moved to 2-0 in Canada with a 75-71 victory over the University of Ottawa on Thursday night in Toronto. Four Huskies scored in double figures, led by 19 points from Zarique Nutter, as the Huskies built a 67-55 lead after three quarter before overcoming an Ottawa rally in the fourth in earn the win. 

David Coit, Anthony Crump and Darweshi Hunter each scored 12 points for NIU in the victory, with Crump also grabbing a team-high seven rebounds. Keshawn Williams added nine points while Kaleb Thornton dished out a game-high seven assists in the win. 

Friday, Aug. 5: at Toronto Metropolitan -- W, 112-82
NIU outscored Toronto Metropolitan 30-13 in the first quarter and never looked back as the Huskies concluded their trip to Canada with a 112-82 victory on Friday night in Toronto. David Coit scored 25 points, including 8-of-9 from the field and 6-of-7 from three-point range, to lead the way in the victory. 

Keshawn Williams and Xavier Amos both added 15 points in the contest while Zarique Nutter scored 12 and Anthony Crump chipped in with 10 points. Darweshi Hunter grabbed a game-high seven rebounds while Kaleb Thornton recorded a game-best seven assists in the victory.
