NIU Looks to Extend Win Streak Tuesday Against Western Michigan

Huskies win streak its longest since 2016

DeKALB, Ill. – Riding a six-game win streak, the Northern Illinois University volleyball team (9-3, 2-0 MAC) looks to keep its momentum rolling tomorrow night as the Western Michigan Broncos (10-4,2-0 MAC) come to town. The match, which will broadcast live on ESPN+, is set to begin at 6 p.m. inside Victor E. Court. The Huskies are coming off a two-win weekend after hosting the Akron Zips last Friday and Saturday. NIU swept the Zips in straight sets in each match to improve to 9-3 overall.

Charli Atiemo (Milford, Mich./Farmington Hills Mercy) led the Huskies on offense with 23 kills (3.83/set) through the two matches. In Friday's match, the middle blocker helped NIU log its highest hitting percentage since 2016 (.402) as she hit .588 on 17 swings to pace all players.

Middle blocker Sammi Lockwood (Cary, Ill./Prairie Ridge) had herself a weekend after totaling 14 kills (2.33/set) and nine blocks (1.5/set) to help the Huskies dismantle the Zips. Lockwood tallied four blocks on Friday and five on Saturday to pace NIU at the net.

Huskie setter Ella Mihacevich (Brunswick, Ohio/Padua Franciscan) posted 66 assists (11/set) over the weekend. On Friday, Mihacevich logged 31 assists and on Saturday, the setter logged another 35 to make her streak of 30+ assist performances 10-straight.

The Broncos enter the contest on a five-game win streak of their own after sweeping Buffalo (8-6,0-2 MAC) in back-to-back matches last weekend. Maggie King leads the conference with 3.82 kills-per-set while Logan Case, Western Michigan's setter, has tallied 580 assists thus far to pace the league as well.

WMU holds a slight edge over NIU as they lead the series 34-32. However, the Huskies won the most recent matchup on Nov. 17, 2021 in four sets (25-18, 20-25, 25-20, 25-19).

Season Tickets start at $30 in the general admission. A Huskie Four-Pack is available at $22.50 per ticket, with a minimum of four season tickets purchased. New for the 2022 season is the addition of 20 courtside seats on the south side of Victor E. Court. For $180, which includes a season ticket and Premium Seat License, Huskie fans will have a chance to experience NIU Volleyball like never before for less than $13 per match.
